AfricaPress-Kenya: Deputy President William Ruto’s team has denounced an apology letter allegedly penned by the DP to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The undated letter circulating on social media purports to be an apology letter from DP Ruto confessing to letting the administration down.
Speaking to media, a representative from the DP’s office dismissed the letter stating that it did not originate from his office.
“The letter is clearly doctored,” the official explained noting that the country ought to focus on more issue-based politics.
The letter alleges that the DP will take responsibility for not heeding the president’s directive not to engage in politics but to focus on the government’s development agenda, as well as opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
This comes amid tension between the Uhuru-led faction and the DP’s team which formed the breakaway party United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In March 2021, Jubilee’s National Management Committee (NMC) resolved to remove Deputy President William Ruto as the party’s deputy leader.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies in Jubilee led by party secretary Raphael Tuju accused Ruto of sabotaging Jubilee’s agenda and associating with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, which has fielded candidates against Jubilee’s in some by-elections.
In a recent development, Soy MP and former Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General Caleb Kositany hinted that the Tangatanga regime would seek party elections in order to seize the Jubilee party from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s grip.
“If they are men enough, let them call party elections today, we will sweep everything from their fold,” he confidently stated.
In his part, Uhuru had in February 2021 dared his deputy and MPs allied to the DP to resign instead of criticising the government.
“We need to either work together or not. If they feel that the government is favourable to them, then they should work with us but if they disassociate themselves, then let them resign,” the president stated.
Responding to the president, Ruto stated that he was not in competition with the president adding that he was keen on performing the duties of his office under the president.
The DP further stated that he was the only leader capable of succeeding the president claiming that he understood Jubilee’s manifesto and development agenda better than any of Kenyatta’s allies.
