AfricaPress-Kenya: National flyweight champion Christine Ongare defeated Ndongala Rossette of the Democratic Republic of Congo to win her second bout of the ongoing Africa Zone Three Boxing Championships in Kinshasa, Congo on Thursday.
Ongare beat Ndongala on unanimous points decision to claim her second victory in three matches in the round robin series.
The win has boosted Ongare’s chances of finishing within the medal bracket in that weight category and her main challenger towards the gold medal is Zalia Munga who beat the Kenyan flyweight champion in her second match yesterday on points.
In her first match, Ongare walloped Havyarimana Ornella of Burundi through a unanimous points decision on March 23, 2021.
That weight has attracted four contestants in Ongare, Ndongala, Munga and Havyarimana.
Munga and Ongare are the two boxers set for the gold and silver medals respectively with Havyarimana and Ndongala sniffing the bronze with ta day to go before the six-day competition ends tomorrow (Friday).
