AfricaPress-Kenya: Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has signed a five-year sponsorship deal with Nigerian betting firm BetKing worth Sh1.2 billion, for allocation to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) and the and the Women Premier League.
Consequently, the league will now be known as BetKing Premier League, after a statement made on Twitter by FKF President Nick Mwendwa on Wednesday, July 15.
Mwendwa also stated each club will receive Sh8 million yearly for the next five years once the league resumes in the new season.

The FKF President has of late been chairing meetings, plotting a possible return of football in the country as the Coronavirus disease ranges.
Mwendwa spearheaded the third and fourth of a series of meetings with members from the Eastern region on Wednesday – (Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni).
According to the leaders, a feasible return to football is key, provided it follows FIFA 2020 Covid-19 protocols.
“ We have been out of football for a long time now and it was important that we have a sit down with the FKF management to give them our recommendations on what we feel should be considered in the return to football plan,” said Makueni County’s Samuel Mwongela.
Central region members (Nyeri, Muranga, Laikipia, Kiambu, and Kirinyaga) also met with Mwendwa, deputy president Doris Petra and the CEO Barry Otieno.
Football action was suspended in March over Covid-19, and the governing body of football in Kenya believes recommendations from such meetings, coupled with directives from the Ministry of Health, will be incorporated in the final return to football formula.
Coast region (Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi), North Eastern (Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera) and Nairobi (Nairobi West and Nairobi East) members will meet today.
FKF president Mwendwa also met a section of football representatives from Western and Nyanza regions on Tuesday.
