Nick Mwendwa withdraws from FIFA Council elections

AfricaPress-Kenya: Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa on Friday morning pulled out of Fifa Council elections leaving just two contestants in the race.

Mwendwa’s withdrawal comes two days after one of the biggest contender Andrew Kamanga of Zambia pulled out of the race to give hope to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick to win the election.

Mwendwa, who is now the fourth candidate to withdraw from the race, was hoping to snatch the seat from incumbent Walter Nyamilandu of Malawi who is also contesting.

Voters for Gambia’s Lamine Bajo have also been targeted by allies of Pinnick ahead of Friday’s polls in Rabat, Morrocco.

Amaju Pinnick is expecting a landslide Fifa Council electoral victory after Wallace Karia of Tanzania withdrew from the race three ago with his votes also likely to go to the Nigerian.

Nick Mwendwa is serving a second four year term as the president of the Football Kenya Federation.

He replaced Sam Nyamweya with victory at the federation’s 2016 elections.
