Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi urges quick response against Vihiga United

AfricaPress-Kenya: Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi will be looking for an improved performance from his team when they battle with Vihiga United in today’s (3 pm) round two match of the 2020/21 FKF-Premier League season at Utalii Grounds.

Kimanzi watched in disbelief as the moneybags suffered a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Kariobangi last weekend on his return to the domestic league dugout.

Just like Kimanzi, former Kenyan international Sammy Okoth had a bad return to topflight football as his Vihiga side fell 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz in the opening round.

Former Player of the Year and Golden boot winner Eric Kapaito was the tormentor-in-chief, scoring a brace and delivering an assist to hand the former Harambee Stars tactician a rude welcome to Wazito.

“It was a difficult result for us in the opening round, but having trained the players for less than four days I have seen a lot of things that we will work on before our next game. We have many talented players that we will work with in building this club,” said Kimanzi.

According to the Dutch-trained coach, it is too early to judge because the league is a marathon and not a knock-out competition.

“I used the opportunity of five substitutes against Kariobangi so that I can understand the players better because I haven’t had a chance to watch them even in a friendly match,” said Kimanzi.

“But remember this is not a knock out competition, it is a league. I believe we’re just but starting and we expect to have an improved team in the upcoming matches. I don’t want to celebrate something I haven’t worked for.”

While Wazito will be seeking their first win of the season at Utalii, KCB will be facing a real test of character against FKF-PL returnees Nairobi City Stars at Kasarani Stadium.

The bankers made a dream start to the season by trouncing Posta Rangers as City Stars saw off Nzoia Sugar 2-0.

Action continues tomorrow and Sunday with five matches on the card.
