Brand Africa Lesotho Chairperson Advocate
Phelane Phomane informed that the Brand Africa Top 100 Network was established in 2011 mandated to conduct surveys, analyze brands and underlying businesses
in Africa, based on a study by international research company; Geopol across 25 countries spanning all the 5 economic regions. Phomane said the initiatives that
Brand Africa utilizes to improve businesses in Africa is to hold Brand Africa forums and round tables, Brand Africa’s Top 100 Awards and the Africa’s best
brands which is brand of the year awards. He said a business cannot grow without building a brand because people will forget about it and therefore not buy
the products or services, adding that Brand Africa is trying to assist African businesses to build their brands so that they can put value on their businesses.
Phomane highlighted that in the media category, Moafrika FM managed to be on the top because it has a brilliant strategy by using an outstanding call service in their programs popularly known
as “Mokhosi”. “It is huge because most of the people do not think of calling the police when they encounter problems, the only thing they do is to make a
call directly to the local radio station. Moafrika has a good relationship with Basotho, it uses Sesotho languages so it is important for the media houses and other business entities to be on the ground and build relationships with their market,” Phomane noted.
