Africa-Press – Lesotho. Some customers have expressed gratitude that some shops are still open on Christmas day, allowing them to access amongst others last-minute forgotten items.
Those interviewed by the agency have said unlike in the past when Christmas was a time to sit and relax at home, the current economic challenge is forcing employers and employees to explore all means of making money for a living.
One of the youths, Ms. Motsélisi Mokuoane said she was in town yesterday but forgot to buy other important spices she is going to be using to prepare a Christmas meal for her family, hence applaud shops for opening.
Over and above that, she alluded that it is good that shops remain open especially for some denominations who do not believe in Christmas celebrations.
Another customer, Mr. Maoeng Lesia indicated he could not come to town this week to get some of his necessities fearing congestion but chose to come today when he knew that many will be at home and other places rejoicing with their loved ones.
He wished all a Merry Christmas stating that this is the time to make peace, rejoice and forgive those who have wronged so as to prepare for a better New Year.
However, other customers have said Lesotho is a Christian country and that on this special day believed to be celebrating and remembering the birth of Jesus Christ, all shops must be closed to allow people to go to their different churches and celebrate the day.
In another story, the agency established that some people woke up in the morning to attend different services in their respective churches as part of celebrating the day while essential service providers , LMPS members amongst others, were seen patrolling in different villages including in the city.
Information received at Shoprite Store shows that the shop opened its doors to customers at around 08:00 am to allow customers access their different needs and wants and will be closing at 14:00 pm.
