Africa-Press – Lesotho. IF desperation was a person, it would have a funny beard, some grey hair and speak in a fake British accent. It would lead a political party devoid of supporters and certainly headed for an embarrassing defeat in the next election.
Its name will be Mahaletere. We all know that Sam’s Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) (whatever that nonsense means) has spooked many politicians who always thought it was their God-given right to mismanage and molest this country.
Everyone is quaking in their boots. But none is more terrified than Mahaletere. You can hear the fear in his voice. He hasn’t stopped talking about Sam at his rallies since the RFP was formed.
In his desperation, he is now sounding like a broken record. Mumbling the same old gobbledegook. Sam is now residing in Mahaletere’s malaeneng of a brain rent-free.
In the process, Mahaletere is exposing himself. The other day he was telling his supporters that he is the one who made Sam a billionaire when he was a minister.
Hear, hear and hear. Oops, he was busy making one man a billionaire when the majority were wallowing in poverty. More than 70 percent of Basotho are living in poverty yet a whole minister spent 30 years in government making one person a billionaire.
He is admitting that he worked overtime to make one person rich at the expense of everyone else. While he was shoving billions in Sam’s pocket, Basotho were getting poorer.
All the people of his constituency have to show for his decades in government are those solar lights along the road. Lighting a road when people are hungry is cruel mischief.
As for the rest of Basotho, all they got was news that some foreign companies have bought their diamond mines. The news was delivered while they farted gases of empty bellies.
And how did he make Sam a billionaire?
The answer is not hard to find. Mahaletere has already told us by implication. If it is true that he made Sam a billionaire, then it’s an admission that he was working for one man when he was a minister.
We might as well ask whose money he was using to make Sam a billionaire. Of course, it’s from the national coffers. Money that belongs to Basotho. He was running a Sam Empowerment Agency (SEA) for decades.
Basotho would elect him to represent them but he would toil and move mountains to make one person a billionaire. Worse, he was using the money owned by the same people who elected him to make one person a billionaire.
Admissions don’t come this naked. Even those with pea-sized brains would know that there is no way you can make someone a billionaire without getting something.
He obviously didn’t hand over the billions and walked away with perforated pockets. Muckraker is not saying he got something for his troubles but you get the drift.
Some things are better left unsaid. This week he was saying the AD is not for sale. Yeh, right! It’s unsalable because it is useless. Its secretary-general left it sooner than you can say Machache.
Basotho are not for sale to rich business people in the RFP, he said. Well, that’s because Mahaletere has already sold them. Double selling is a cardinal sin.
Someone should tell Mahaletere to drink some water and calm down before he loses his marbles. This is not his fight. His political career is done. His 70-something-old heart is not ready for such political pressure.
