Africa-Press – Lesotho. Despite health workers under the Coalition of Health Practitioners (CHP) having downed tools on Monday July 13th, Lesotho has welcomed the covid-19 test

kits to enhance testing efforts. This is according to the statement released on Thursday this week by the United States (US) Embassy in Lesotho. According to

the statement, US Ambassador to Lesotho Rebecca Gonzalez alongside officials from the Ministry of Health (MoH), the National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC)

and the National Drug Service Organization (NDSO) witnessed the arrival of the covid-19 test kits at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport on July 15.

The test kits are said to be of the value of around M600, 000 and have been donated by the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in

partnership with the African Union (AU). “The United States strongly supports the work of the Africa CDC in advancing public health on the African continent.

These test kits will go a long way in helping Lesotho strengthen its efforts to combat the coronavirus,” the US Ambassador was quoted. The press statement further said Ambassador Gonzalez promised to work with the government

of Lesotho in the fight against the pandemic as the World Health Organization (WHO) declared. On Monday this week, the WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus noted at the media

briefing on covid-19 that “the virus remains public enemy number one, but the actions of many governments and people do not reflect this. Every single

leader, every single government and every single person can do their bit to break chains of transmission and end collective suffering. ” Meanwhile, in April this year the US had pledged an equivalent of M71 million towards the fight against the Coronavirus.
