Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Matšepo Molise Ramakoae was last week awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the GD Goenka University.
She was on June 3, conferred a tittle of Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) (h. c) in a fanfare ceremony in India. The Indian University awarded Hon.
Ramakoae in recognition of “her immense contribution in Public Service of the Kingdom of Lesotho and her service to her nation, the people of Lesotho and her
distinguished career spanning 3.5 decades”. The University honors exceptional individuals for their meritorious achievement in many fields such as arts, business, public
service, sciences, social sciences, human rights, and humanities. Asked what this feat means to her, Ramakoae (h. c) said she is “humbled”. “While you are working, there will always be some
people or entities who will recognize your efforts and contribution to your country,” she said. Some of Lesotho politicians who had been conferred with
Honorary Doctorates are the former Prime Ministers’ Hon. Leabua Jonathan, Hon. Pakalitha Mosisili, Hon. Motsoahae Thabane and former Deputy Prime Minister
Hon. Monyane Moleleki. Ramakoae (h. c) has served the country in different capacities and within the civil service until she joined politics in 2006 under
All Basotho Convention (ABC). She has served as a Chief of State Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director of Police Complaints Authority, the
Principal Secretary in the Ministries of Communication, Science and Technology and Defence and National Security. She has also served as a Board Member in different
institutions such as the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA). In parliament, Ramakoae (h. c) served in different portfolio committees and she has represented Lesotho in regional and
international fora. She has served in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), as a Chairperson of Women’s Caucus among others. Hon. Ramakoae has also served
as a Chairperson of Regional Women‘s Parliamentary Caucus in the Southern African Development Community- Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF). Matsieng No. 45 Member of Parliament (MP) now Maama
No. 45, first held a Cabinet position when she was appointed the Deputy Minister of Finance in 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the National University of Lesotho and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration from The Hague University in the Netherlands.
