Senegal's CAS Appeal May Delay AFCON 2025

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Senegal’s appeal over the AFCON 2025 outcome could take between nine and twelve months to resolve, according to legal representatives, potentially delivering a verdict just weeks before the next tournament.

“Such a procedure usually lasts nine to 12 months, but we want it to go faster. However, all parties (CAF and Morocco) must agree to it,” said Serge Vittoz.

The appeal comes after the Confederation of African Football confirmed Morocco as AFCON 2025 champions, awarding them a 3–0 victory in the final and adjusting FIFA rankings accordingly.

As a result, Senegal’s standing has dropped from 12th in January, with 1706.83 points, to 14th in March, with 1684.85 points.

FIFA’s recognition of Morocco as champions underscores the impact of CAF’s ruling and highlights the high stakes involved in the ongoing legal proceedings for the West African side.

The appeal process at the Court of Arbitration for Sport introduces uncertainty for Senegal ahead of upcoming competitions, with both ranking points and historical record implications hanging in the balance.
