Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Development Planning Hon. Selibe Mochoboroane announced on Monday that 200 postgraduate students have been granted sponsorship by the National Manpower

Development Secretariat (NMDS). Mochoboroane had assembled the National University of Lesotho (NUL) postgraduate students to address issues relating to their allowances and sponsorship approval.

When addressing the students, Mochoboroane said the total number of people who applied are 290 while those who have been granted the sponsorship are 200 and they are

requested to go to NMDS to sign their contracts on Wednesday. This is the first group that will benefit from the revised policy which nullified the old policy

that demanded payment of 50% of the outstanding bursary payment. Mochoboroane had earlier last year called that policy off, citing that the opportunity is

for vulnerable students. One of the postgraduates Lineo Pene appreciated the support from government and requested the Minister to increase the intake next year.

“I also request for creation of jobs after we graduate so that we can be able to give

our siblings opportunity to come study too,” she said. A relieved postgraduate student, Mofumotse Chere Ramainoane said he feels encouraged and motivated

after the release of the lists. “It has been three weeks since we have been going to classes not knowing if one would get the sponsorship and that really

affects one’s energy of studying but right now I feel powerful and relaxed, however it is very unfortunate that some of us did not get the scholarships and

they have no choice as their journey will have to end this far, hence I humbly request the ministry to increase the number of graduates for postgraduate studying,” Ramainoane.
