Africa-Press – Lesotho. The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) on Monday handed over a ten months child who was abducted by an unknown woman in November last year in Berea district, to the government of Lesotho and her biological parents.

The Free State (FS) acting Premier and Member of Executive Council (MEC) of Social Development Mamiki Qabathe said the child was abducted to RSA at only three months old.

Judging from the traumatic experience this may have on both parents and a child, Qabathe said she hopes the social workers in Lesotho will work in collaboration with the child’s family and counsel them.

She noted that the woman who abducted the child is currently in Police custody in SA and has not yet been prosecuted. She took a chance to thank SA Police who worked together with Lesotho police to trace the child.

She said it is necessary that the two countries should live together in harmony. “However, the two countries need to tighten the cross border relations because there are many challenges faced and most of them affect women and children,” Qabathe advised.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Social Development Hon. ‘Matebatso Doti said around May when she came back into the Social Development office, an issue of an abducted child was one of the subjects on her table.

“I told myself that I will not rest until the child is found.

Our job is simple as Social Development and it is to work corporately with this family and provide it with counseling sessions because what they went through is not easy at all,” she said.

The child’s father Moeketsi Molebatsi thanked the government of Lesotho for assisting his family to find the child. He said the disappearance of his child has haunted him for the longest time and they are happy now that she is back into their family.

“I have incurred so many debts trying to look for my child,” he said. Molebatsi further said his child was abducted last year in November when her mother took her to Maluti Hospital for a check-up.
