Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a set of updated operational and logistical rules ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, aimed at ensuring smooth movement, proper organisation, and improved matchday coordination for participating nations.
Under the new guidelines, national teams are now required to submit their final squad list at least 10 days before the tournament kicks off, with any delays attracting a $10,000 fine. The decision is part of CAF’s attempt to streamline administrative processes and avoid last-minute complications.
CAF has also introduced strict travel limitations: only 18 players from each squad will be allowed to travel by plane, road, or train between cities for matches. This rule is expected to influence how coaches plan for rotation and tactical flexibility during the competition.
Travel arrangements have also been clearly defined. Teams playing in Casablanca after being based in Rabat will move on the morning of matchday, while countries required to travel to other host cities will be permitted to move a day before their games.
CAF further announced that participating teams will not be allowed to hold full training sessions at match venues on the eve of their fixtures. Instead, sides may only visit the stadium between 2pm and 9pm, subject to CAF approval, for familiarity and walk-throughs.
These changes mark some of the most significant logistical adjustments made for an AFCON tournament in recent years, as CAF seeks to enhance efficiency and reduce congestion around match venues.
