Africa-Press – Lesotho. The acting president of the African Union (AU), João Lourenço, on Thursday, in the city of Yokohama, Japan, considered that it is beyond dispute that Africa is a growing continent, driven by a vision of the future included in the AU Agenda 2063 for a prosperous, integrated and peaceful continent.

João Lourenço, who is also the Angolan Head of State, was speaking during the Public-Private Business Dialogue as part of the 9th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which began on Wednesday.

On that occasion, he expressed his hope that the African continent would have more qualified young people, more diversified economies, broader infrastructure, and that its populations would be able to live in dignity and harmony.

“This ambitious agenda is not a mere aspiration; it is a strategic framework that guides our collective efforts toward self-reliance and sustainable development,” stated the president.

In this regard, the statesman recently recalled that during the Africa-US Business Summit, held in the Angolan capital, Africa’s desire to form business partnerships that promote its development was highlighted.

“This dynamic continues here in Yokohama. We at the African Union firmly believe that the private sector is the strategic driver of inclusive growth and sustainable development,” he said.

João Lourenço believes that it is the private sector that creates jobs, invests in innovation, drives the transformation of the economy and generates necessary wealth “so that our societies can prosper.”

He said it is with this understanding that he consistently advocates for the existence of platforms like the African Union Private Sector Forum.
