Africa-Press – Lesotho. AN Amanzimtoti endurance bike rider, Richard Wieland, has made his hometown proud after winning a gold medal in what has been called the hardest motorbike race in southern Africa.

The Motul Roof of Africa 2021 took place in Lesotho recently. Depending on the class in which they entered, the 500 riders had to cover a distance of between 250 to 350 km over three days at an altitude of up to 2 700m above sea level.
Having started racing at the tender age of five, this was Richard’s first time participating in the Motul Roof of Africa race where he entered in the gold category.
The other classes were ironman, bronze and silver. On the first day’s time trial he finished 17th, which gave him his starting place on the second day.
Unfortunately, on day two, the riders were stopped 10km from the finish line due to the bad weather and for their safety, and had to turn back. On the third and last day, Richard was able to give it all he had and win a gold medal by finishing 17th in his class. DID YOU KNOW?
