Africa-Press – Lesotho. Miss Lesotho 2021, Tiisetso Seliane, wants to continue with pageantry but as a mentor to young aspiring girls. She says she also looks up to Miss Lesotho 2017, Mpoi Mahao “When I was crowned Miss Lesotho 2021, I honestly could not believe it.
I was happy to know that I finally got the opportunity to serve my country as Miss Lesotho” she says “I have learned to trust my inner voice more. I have always wanted to participate in pageants but I always postponed because I never believed I could actually do it.
My self-esteem and confidence as well as team work skills have improved. Being Miss Lesotho means I am going to have to work with other people in order for me to achieve my goals,” she continues. Tiisetso would like to continue with pageantry but as a mentor for others.
She would like to see other young women grow into best version of themselves and also present them with the opportunity to stand for a course that helps them give back to their communities and country as a whole.
“I look up to the likes of Miss Lesotho 2017, Mpoi Mahao. She is a beautiful soul.
I was fortunate enough to work with her a few years back while mentoring Miss NUL 2019/2020 contents and I would feel honoured if I got to work her again.
I feel like there is so much I could learn from her. I am also very fortunate to already work so closely with Miss Molulela Monyane who is our Director at Miss Lesotho.
I love her ‘go for what you believe in’ spirit and from my interactions with so far I can tell there is a lot I can learn from someone as strong and smart as her,” she says. She also has a project lined up, which she hopes to run before the end of June 2021.
Tiisetso Seliane, aged 23 and from Hlotse, in the Leribe district attended school at Leribe English Medium Primary school from 2003 to 2010, moved to MJ Mohlahli Comm-Tech in Ficksburg, South Africa, where she studied from 2011 to2014 and then Molapo High school from 2015 to 2016.
She is currently a pupil at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) doing her final year of BA in Education. “Pageantry won my heart as early as Grade1 but I never got participate in pageants until early 2017 where I modelled for a local charity group called Action Against Squalor to raise funds.
The person who introduced me to pageantry was an old childhood friend of mine, Teboho Mahloane. Her sassy attitude and confidence from as young as seven made feel like as a girl I am allowed to be smart, beautiful and confident all at the same time,” she says.
She started modelling professionally in 2018. Her first big break was when she joined the Miss NUL 2018/19 pageant where she made it to the top 3 as the 1st runner-up. She says her achievements so far include coaching/mentoring other aspiring beauty queens.
