Asanovic warns against underrating Comoros and Lesotho

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Chipolopolo boss Aljosa Asanovic has warned against underrating Comoros and Lesotho in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. Asanovic believes that it’s the two sides who could complicate Zambia’s qualification to Côte d’Ivoire.

Zambia were drawn in group H alongside hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Comoros and Lesotho for the qualifiers of the 34th edition of the international men’s football championship of Africa.

The former Croatia national team player is happy with the group and feels Ivory Coast are the favourites. “This is the only group where there are three teams, we will fight for the one slot because as you know Ivory Coast is the host and has already qualified.

” Ivory Coast is a very good team, they are the favorites with high-level players but matches against them will big good for us to see the character,” he said.

“Am so happy when I looked at the quality of my players and am so pleased about the qualifiers but we must be careful especially with Comoros who have a balanced team.

We watched them at the last AFCON and they showed very good performances. “I know their best player who plays in Serbia. We have enough time to analyze the team.

We must be very careful and not think Lesotho is a small team, we must prepare adequately, the two games against Comoros and Lesotho are very dangerous.

“I know when playing against Ivory Coast my players will be at 200% but I also want to make sure they are also 200% against Lesotho and Comoros,” he added.

Asanovic was also quick to thank the fans for their support and ask them to stick with the team heading into the qualifiers. “The draw is okay and I am happy but I repeat we must be careful and prepare very well to beat Comoros and Lesotho,” he said.

“We thank the fans for supporting us, them being behind us is very important, we know they love football a lot and the players.

We will do everything to go to AFCON but stay with us and believe in us. The players are eager to start the qualifiers,” Asanovic added. Zambia will be desperate to make it to the continental showpiece after missing the last three consecutive tournaments.

Zambia last qualified for the tournament in 2015 under now Namungo FC boss Honor Janza. The qualifiers for next year’s showpiece will start in June 2022.
