Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Member of Parliament for Makhoroana Constituency #20 Honorable Tsitso Cheba expressed gratitude for the launch of the rural electrification project in Tebalete and Lifotholeng villages in Ha Makhoroana.

Speaking at the event, he said the project marks the end of a long journey for both himself and the community, who had watched neighbouring villages receive electricity while Khubetsoana area remained without connection. He said he later understood that the inner villages were scheduled to benefit at a later stage.

Honourable Cheba noted that access to electricity will bring convenience to residents, who have long relied on firewood for daily activities such as cooking and heating water for bathing.

“This development will also improve health conditions, especially for those who struggle with smoke from open fires,” he said.

He concluded by thanking villagers who already had electricity and assisted others by allowing them to charge their phones and solar devices.

The event was officially closed by the Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa, who represented the Minister of Energy currently out of the country.

In his remarks, Professor Rapapa said the electrification initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s priority to ensure that by 2030 every Mosotho has access to electricity. He added that the funds used for the project amount to around M20,952,169,70 and that 700 households in both Tebalete and Lifotholeng villages will benefit.

He explained that if each household were to pay for its own electricity connection, it would cost about M29,931,67 per household. He said the project begins February 16 and is expected to be completed by September 21.

Professor Rapapa also urged residents who are currently working far from home to ensure their houses are occupied so they do not miss the opportunity to receive electricity. He added that schools in the area will also be connected.

In conclusion, he vowed to support Ramakoro Primary School by providing classrooms and toilets. He further promised that, now that the Ministry of Energy has met the community halfway with electricity, he will ensure local schools receive computers to aid learning.
