Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho long distance runner Toka Badboy has booked a spot to the African Senior Championships to be held in Oran, Algeria, next month. Badboy won the BAA National Athletics Championships in Gaborone, Botswana, this past weekend where he clocked a time of 28:37:24 minutes in the 10 000 metres race at the National Stadium.

He joins other Lesotho athletes that have already qualified for the African Senior Championships: marathon runner Nkhabutlane Motlokoa, Lerato Sechele in the triple jump, 100 metres sprinter Mojela Koeneshe and ‘Neheng Khatala who also competes in the 10 000m.

The men’s 10 000 metres in Gaborone was dominated by Lesotho athletes as they took the top three positions with Namakoe Nkhasi coming second in 29:18:05 and Tebello Ramakongoana clocking 29:34:75 in third place.

Ramolefi Motsieloa finished sixth in the same category with a time of 30:53:64 while Sekonyela Letsekang did not start. The highly rated Badboy will start preparing for the continental showpiece set for the Olympic Stadium in Oran from June 1 to 5.

Badboy has represented Lesotho at big events before including the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia and 2019 African Games where he finished 15th in the 5 000 metres.

Badboy is not the only Lesotho athlete that claimed a victory in Gaborone. ‘Mathakane Letsie also came first in the 1 500 metres clocking 4:53:77. Meanwhile, sprinting rising star Mojela Koeneshe also qualified for the African Senior Championships after a fine display at the South African University Championships.

Koeneshe is a student at the University of Northwest in Potchefstroom and he clocked an impressive time of 10:43 seconds in the 100 metres dash to qualify for the continental games in Algeria.
