Africa-PressLesotho. Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) Development Manager Annirao Dajee was in the country taking badminton tutors and schools teachers through Badminton World Federation (BWF) Shuttle Time Program training course.

The two day training took place over the weekend. It was the first time Lesotho was granted this opportunity and the tutors who underwent the training are now the first ever BWF recognized tutors in the country.

Talking to the program coordinator in Lesotho under the Badminton Association of Lesotho (BAL), Mr Mohlala Mopeli said the first day saw Dajee taking seven tutors through a one day training on Friday before the teachers’ session on Saturday at Sefika High School Hall.

According to Mopeli, ‘Shuttle Time’ is an innovative schools badminton program supported by the BWF with the intention of making badminton one of the world’s most popular schools sports.

So he said the course aims to help teachers and coaches/tutors develop skills, knowledge and confidence to plan and deliver safe badminton lessons to schools children from a very young age.

Mopeli said they included teachers in the programme because they spend a lot of time with the kids at school, therefore they believe it’s only through schools they can get access to the kids.

After the course he said the teachers and tutors will work together with the association in implementing the shuttle time program across the country. He also noted that the tutors stand a chance to attend BWF next level training courses if they pass the current course.

The Badminton Association of Lesotho is still operating under Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) provisional membership and they are looking forward to get a fully membership. Therefore, Morapeli stated that the course is going to equip them with necessary skills that will help them excel once they get full membership.
