Africa-Press – Lesotho. The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to break with tradition. Usually held in October at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, this year’s event will take place earlier, on Monday, September 22. This change was confirmed by L’Équipe, the organizing media outlet behind the prestigious award.
But beyond the scheduling shift, a major evolution will mark this edition: for the first time in history, all trophies that were previously exclusive to men will now be awarded in the women’s category as well. This includes the Kopa Trophy for the best young player, the Yachine Trophy for the best goalkeeper, and the Gerd Müller Trophy for the top scorer.
It’s a significant step forward in gender equality within football’s most glamorous individual awards ceremony. The move reflects the growing recognition of women’s football on the global stage, and aims to put male and female talents on equal footing during this annual celebration of excellence.
