Africa-Press – Lesotho. Some Basotho could be seen panic-buying groceries yesterday fearing the lockdown could be extended beyond the set two weeks. Public Eye yesterday caught up with Molefi Kali who was laden with several plastic bags of groceries, who explained that he feared the lockdown could be extended so he had decided to spend his cash reserves on food.

“Nobody is certain when the lockdown will end so I decided to buy food items in large quantities so that should the lockdown extends even up to three months, at least my family will have food to eat,” Kali said.

When this reporter reminded him the Prime Minister had said grocery shops would remain open during the period, Kali said he was aware of the announcement but prefers to “be safe rather than regret later.
The country entered a hard lockdown at midnight last night scheduled to last till 27 January when Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro will review the situation and make a new announcement.
