Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police has appealed to Basotho to join the government in the fight against crime. Mr.

Lebona Lephema said this when stating their plan on how to implement the operation by a joined special task team following Prime Minister’s official statement on Monday.

He said they have commenced with roadblocks to confiscate illegal guns, urging the public to work with security agencies by informing them of illegal deeds to ensure that there is peace and stability in the country.

Also speaking, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Limpho Tau said they are determined to put a stop to illegal deeds that occur frequently which include robberies, killings and stock theft.

He revealed that this week, the security agencies confiscated over 20 illegal firearms at different roadblocks. He noted that this is progress as those guns are used to shoot people.

Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela said they formed a joint task team under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police to ensure the success of this operation. He said will also work with the National Security Service (NSS) as a result, they will identify the plan and places to approach.

He added that they will implement this special operation by holding roadblocks, saying they will reduce occurrences of crime in the country, however, noted that other interventions are needed to ensure success.

He said they are to use some learned lessons from other operations in order to beef up this operation, saying they will also be working with the media to ensure that the public is always informed about the progress.

The Commissioner of Police (COMPOL), Holomo Molibeli said they are concerned with the current status of crime in the country where people are killed, saying as Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and National Security Services (NSS) have joined hands to engage in an operation that is intended to stop crime.

He stressed that they will ensure the safety and protection of every Mosotho and their property. He said they are going to work in all districts and have identified some dangerous places which need attention.
