Botswana offers Judges to Lesotho

Africa-PressLesotho. GOVERNMENT Secretary Moahloli Mphaka says Botswana has volunteered to assist Lesotho with two judges to “specifically preside over high profile cases”.

The judges are expected in Lesotho within a week or two.

Mphaka said the government requested assistance from SADC during a one-day Double Troika Summit held in Angola last week Tuesday.

He said Botswana instantly responded to Lesotho’s request.

He also said the European Union has agreed to send 10 judges to SADC states that need them, Lesotho included, to help with the backlog of cases.

Lesotho has 11 judges.

Mphaka the Botswana judges will help ease pressure on the limited number of local judges.

“These Judges will specifically preside over the high profile cases,” he said.

He said the courts have a backlog of cases from as far back as the 1990s.

Mphaka said the government wants to see justice done to these high profile cases.
