Africa-PressLesotho. Botho University (BU) Lesotho unveiled its initiative to award scholarships to Lesotho media houses under its online Masters programmes in an effort to boost the media

industry. This development was communicated last week Wednesday over an online scholarship engagement forum. BU Assistant Dean Makhosi Hlalele said the scholarships are meant to capacitate and upgrade

media practitioners with skills not only for them as individuals but for growth of Lesotho media industry at large. She informed that the university was

established in the Republic of Botswana in 1997 and has grown to be a regional institution of higher learning present in four Southern African Development

Community (SADC) countries which are Botswana, Lesotho, ESwatini and Namibia, all offering dedicated blended distance learning and campus learning. Hlalele informed

that BU Lesotho was established in 2015 and its programmes have been accredited by the Council of Higher Education (CHE). She said to date, the university has

over 3500 students and 350 staff members and offers qualifications from Certificate level to the Master’s degree level with plans to place in Doctoral programs.

BU Marketing Manager Keketso Makhetha indicated that the BU scholarship is geared towards making a meaningful contribution to the media fraternity by ensuring that the

media professionals are well equipped with the 21st century skills sets. “On the point of selection criterion and conditions this opportunity is available to all media

houses in Lesotho, applicants must have at least 2 years work experience, applicants will be expected to attend an interview with the faculty dean and

management and the master’s scholarships will be offered in distance learning mode. The selection criteria will be based on the academic grades, personal

statement, referees recommendation and Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume,” he noted. He highlighted that BU offers programmes through the four faculties which are the Faculty of

Business and Accounting, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Health and Education and the Faculty of Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism available

in campus and distance learning programs. The scholarship will be offered under the following Master’s programmes; Masters in Business Accounting, Masters in Higher Education and Masters in Computer Science.

The BU Senior Communications and Marketing Director Aruni Gandhi, in his remarks, encouraged workers within the Lesotho media companies to apply for these programs and get hold of the scholarship opportunities.
