Africa-Press – Lesotho. Thapoha Hiking club has taken a big step of empowering the local businesses with their 3 Rangers Trail Hiking tour. Last week, Thapoha Hiking club launched the 3 Rangers Trail Hiking Tour at ‘Manthabiseng convention centre.
It is the 3rd annual hiking movement. The movement is set to take 14 days from the Lesotho’s lowest point at Morifi Mohale’s Hoek to the highest point Thabana Ntlenyana.
It will take place on the 04-17 October this year. This initiative is not just about hiking, it is an effective initiative positioning Lesotho as Africa’s premier high-altitude adventure destination.
It is aimed at inviting the foreign tourists to come and explore Lesotho’s natural places, culture and heritage. The hiking is going to benefit youth by giving them jobs, not only youth are to benefit but also the business people.
All these will all increase the economy of the country. The hiking is sponsored by a lot of companies: Standard Lesotho Bank, Lesotho council of tourism, Lesotho’s tourism development corporation, metropolitan and others.
One of the 3 rangers trail implementation team of Thapoha hiking club Lisebo Mositsi Indicated that these hiking is going to contribute to the community development.
She said that business people to the villages that they are going to do the hiking at will benefit. “The local business people of the villages we will be passing will benefit in various ways.
We are going to buy from them. For example when we need meat, we are going to make an order to that residents, if we need eggs we are still go ng to buy them from those people,” she said.
“Even the Sheep that we are going on the community e engagement, we are going ng to buy it from those farmers.
We are not going to carry anything, even food. We are going ng to buy them there. We are eve n going to rent their houses for accommodation and hire their horses to carry our belongings.
In short we are going ng to open their eyes with what they can use to do businesses. Mositsi further indicated that this hiking can even create opportunity for big business people to build things like hotels as they are not there.
To make many business activities based on the opportunities they see. She also added that their other aim is to invite the foreign n tourists which will again increase the economy of the country when they come.
The event sponsored by the big companies. The chairperson of Lesotho Council of tourism Adv. Makhetha Mot’soari welcomed the hiking. He said that the trail is not just about walking, it is about endurance, cultural exchange and rediscovering in nature.
He said that it is going to bring opportunities for local guides, homestays, and village communities who will provide food accommodation and cultural storytelling.
“We are talking about the experience that will experience that will attract an International hikers, domestic adventurers and regional visitors that will contribute to our economy and our people’s lively hoods.
However one of the youth ‘Mathapelo Hant’si gave hr I insight ab out the hiking. She said that it is indeed going to foster entrepreneurship as the hikers will buy from those villages. Hant’si further added that, it is even going to provide job opportunities for youth who studied tourism as they will be the tour guides.
