Butha-Buthe Taekwondo Club set for international tournament

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Butha-Buthe Taekwondo Club will take part in the Second Generation Taekwondo tournament in eSwatini on July 03. The club’s Senior Coach Thabang Thothome has revealed to Informative Sport that 15 players are set to live the country on June 30to Eswatini, to compete with other African Taekwondo clubs. He said they are competing as Butha-Buthe Taekwondo Club not as representatives for Lesotho. The 15 players that are established to compete in the tournament were chosen according to their different abilities.

They initially competed in the local competitions then the top 25 who won competed amongst themselves where the top 15 players qualified for this international exposure.

Thothome further issued a call for sponsors, saying they are still short of M4350.00 to cover full expenses for this trip. He highlighted the importance of international tournaments, saying they are a platform for players to test their abilities and international competence. “Through this tournament, we will test our players’ physical fitness, techniques, stamina, timing, mental strength, and determination in ways that regular training doesn’t.
Just like in belt grading, tournaments offer an opportunity to show that training has made a real difference in the players’ ability and level over time,” he said. Thothome said that this tournament will also get their players out of their comfort zone because when they train in class, they get comfortable from the training floor, they get comfortable with instructors, peers and sparring partners. He said competing in a tournament puts players in a spotlight and offers new opportunities.
