Africa-Press – Lesotho. Following the tragic accident which occurred at Tlaeeng Pass Mokhotlong where a bus overturned killing eight mineworkers on Monday, February 8, 2021, the Construction and Mineworkers Association Union (CAMAU) has expressed its condolences to the mineworkers’ families.

CAMAU ask the whole nation to join them in keeping the bereaved families in their thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time. “A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts, through us they live on,” CAMAU said in a statement.

CAMAU also expressed gratitude to the SMD, Mothae and Lets’eng mines’ emergency rescue teams who rallied quickly to assist at the scene. However, CAMAU call upon authorities to investigate the cause of the accident, urging the mines of Lesotho to ensure maximum safety standards for their workers in order to achieve zero accidents and zero death in future.

The union further said the nation needs to learn from this to develop safety measures disaster preparedness especially now when we are experiencing floods and heavy rains to ensure we minimise chances of accidents due to bad weather.
