Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Health Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane says the Ministry is aware that cancer continues to overwhelm the country and that its treatment should be approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
This he said in the National Assembly on Thursday when responding to the question of Mr. Remaketse Sehlabaka regarding cancer disease which he said continues to overwhelm the country under the current medical intervention and how soon will the Minister seek effective alternatives.
Mr. Mochoboroane said the medication , drugs and treatment offered to cancer patients have been certified by WHO to be used on cancer patients, saying the treatment such as chemotherapy do not cause cancer but rather treat and kill cells and such treatment might have side effects, but they are beneficial to cancer patients.
He further said the Ministry will have to conduct thorough research to identify key substances for cure in locally available herbs, indicating that in the process, local traditional healers, herbalists and naturopathic doctors will be engaged in order to get to their views and how to fight cancer.
