CBL warns against buying bonds from AEEX SA

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Central Bank of Lesotho (CBL) has issued a warning to the members of the public to desist from using the services of AEEX South Africa Ltd. The bank said in its last week statement

that the South African based broker is not authorised to run its operations in Lesotho. “The Central Bank of Lesotho, in its capacity as the Commissioner of Financial Institutions, the Registrar of

Capital Markets, informs members of the public that it has become aware that a company called AEEX South Africa Ltd, which is based in the Republic of South

Africa, is soliciting and collecting funds from the public as investments in their products under the pretense of “gold bond offering,” reads the bank

statement in pertinent part. The statement further says, “members of the public are urged to exercise caution with their hard earned money and desist from entering into financial agreements with unlicensed financial institutions

and or un-authorised companies based both in Lesotho and outside the country. ” The regulator further accuses the securities company of violating the laws.

The CBL had promised to take legal action against this company. The CBL is empowered by the Financial Institutions Act of 1999, the Money Lenders Act 1989, the Building Finance Institutions Act of 1999 and the Insurance Act of

1976 to among others “promote safe and sound development of the financial system and to monitor and regulate the capital market”.
