Africa-Press – Lesotho. Mikel Arteta couldn’t hide his frustration after Arsenal’s elimination from the Champions League at the hands of PSG. Despite a strong overall performance in the second leg, the Gunners fell 2-1 in Paris, sealing their exit after also losing 1-0 at home.
“We were better than them,” Arteta insisted post-match, pointing to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as the decisive factor in both games. The Spanish coach, visibly disappointed, lamented the missed opportunities and bad luck, especially given that his team was missing seven key players through injury. “We played with courage and intelligence. I’m proud of the players, but the reality is the result.”
Still, Arteta offered a show of class toward the victors, wishing PSG success in the final. A former player at the Parisian club, he acknowledged the emotional link: “For my past here, I hope they win.” When asked if he would say “Allez Paris,” he held back in the moment but admitted he would support them in the final.
As PSG now prepares to face Inter Milan in Munich on May 31, Arsenal is left to reflect on a campaign that showed promise but ultimately ended in bitter disappointment.
