Africa-Press – Lesotho. After 10 years in the film industry, Filmmaker Chatsane Chatsane unveils glitches surrounding film production in the country. Chatsane says he has thus
far managed to release only two films since he joined the industry in 2010. He said this was due to lack of sponsorship and lack of market for films, the
industry has seen slow progress nationwide. “This negatively impacts local film makers making it hard to produce more films,” he said. Also, he said in order
for one to complete his productions he has to utilize his own finances, which makes it hard to meet basic needs in their families. In addition, Chatsane, who
has been leading Chatsane and Sesotho Speakers group since 2018, showed that due to the troubles surrounding film production he has managed to broadcast only
two movies being “Moferefere li phuntse letobo tsa baka moferefere” in 2010 and “Moferefere Mokopu oa itsoalla lithole” in 2014. He pointed-out that these were
bought by only a few people. He said in trials to strive through the harsh industrial conditions, his crew is working on a television series that is titled “Re pheta mehlala”.
He, however noted that they are already facing setbacks in terms of funding. Highlighting a need for proper wardrobe for actors, he said they are greatly challenged in this regard.
Chatsane mentioned that it is their dream to be more recognized like South African (SA) soap operas such as Generations and Muvhango. “To resolve this problem
as filmmakers, we plea to the local companies and the government to give support to the local film producers in order to help them boost and improve our productions,” he added.
