Africa-Press – Lesotho. Preparations are underway for the launching ceremony of both the Children’s Court and Legal Aid Office in Mokhotlong on December 16 this year.
As part of the preparations, the Administration Manager Ms. Neo Mphutlane from High Court of Lesotho, Ms. Nthabiseng Mohale who is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Judiciary and the Deputy Director Legal Aid Ms. Seboku Mabathoana met with the District Celebration Committee in Mokhotlong on Tuesday.
Ms. Mphutlane said there is need for Children’s Court to be operating in the districts and Mokhotlong is not exceptional to that initiative supported by the European Union in Lesotho as there are children undergoing challenges that need court’s intervention.
She added that Children’s Court is available in seven districts namely Maseru, Mohale’s Hoek, Mafeteng, Leribe, Thaba Tseka, Berea and Mokhotlong which is soon to be launched.
In another development, the Legal Aid Deputy Director Ms. Mabathoana explained that on the same day, the plan is to also officiate the opening of the offices in the district.
Legal Aid Lesotho, established by the Legal Aid Act of 1978, is mandated to provide legal representation to indigent individuals in both civil and criminal cases across various courts in the country.
