Africa-Press – Lesotho. As the cleaning campaign, ‘Operation Hloekisa Lesotho’ celebrates one-year, Maseru City Council (MCC) urges the nation to introspect for the success of the initiative.
MCC Communications Manager, Mrs ‘Makatleho Mosala in an interview with the Lesotho News Agency (LENA) said the primary objective of the campaign as spearheaded by the government, is to encourage cleanliness countrywide.
She commended the government for the initiative, adding that it cannot be the work of MCC alone to promote the notion of cleanliness. She stressed that while this is a good move, she has established a number of challenges that include fewer numbers of public servants participating in this move, hence the need for introspection.
“It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to take it upon ourselves and keep the country clean by avoiding littering amongst others”, she said.
Furthermore, she added that while MCC has employed Basotho working towards upholding cleanliness, there is need for concerted efforts as they (MCC) has shortage of staff due to financial constraints amongst other reasons.
Meanwhile, LENA also interviewed the Little Mayor Champion, Reatlehile Chopho who recently donated dustbins as part of supporting good hygiene as a call for all.
Similarly, Harvest FM he Station Manager, Ms Likopo Koloi appealed to the government to consider using the Little Mayor in cleaning campaigns, because that can encourage other children to be passionate about keeping the country clean.
She said the young Ambassador can also revive the spirit of ‘Operation Hloekisa Lesotho’. ‘Operation Hloekisa’ was re-launched in May last year by Prime Minister (PM) Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane after being launched by former PM, Dr. Moeketsi Majoro previously.
