Africa-Press – Lesotho. The District Urban Council is currently working closely with the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) to resolve challenges posed by electricity power lines affecting the construction of the Quthing district bus terminal.

Urban Council Town Clerk, Ms. Nt’seiseng Mohapi, clarified that the construction company engaged in the bus terminal construction earlier this month raised concerns that, according to the terminal design, bus bay structures must be built in areas currently occupied by LEC power lines. LEC policy prohibits construction under or near power lines for safety reasons.

Ms. Mohapi said the Council has followed all procedures required by LEC to facilitate relocation of the lines, adding that they include submitting a formal request to LEC to facilitate quotations for the relocation process and engaging the construction company to carry out the work.

She added that another issue, raised of a nearby resident who claimed the terminal would encroach on her property, has already been resolved. The land allocation committee confirmed that the bus terminal boundaries do not interfere with the residential site.

Ms. Mohapi further said the construction is continuing smoothly, with councillors working hand in hand with the contractor to ensure progress.

LEC Quthing Branch Manager, Mrs. ‘Manthako Mathe, confirmed that the company is collaborating with the Urban Council to relocate the power lines.
