Africa-Press – Lesotho. Commuters traveling from ports of entry between Lesotho and South Africa will from today (December 01) fork out more than what they used to pay for the past three years.
Maliboho Transport Forum Public Relations Mr. Thabiso Pitso said this in an interview with the Agency where he said the new prices will cover all the ports of entry between the two countries saying that for Maseru bridge and Ficksburg bridge from December 01 commuters will have to pay R/M 470 to Rustenburg, Noord it will be R370 while Bloemfontein from Maseru it will be R180 and Ficksburg will be R220.
Mr. Pitso added that commuters from Maseru bridge to Ladybrand will pay R30.
He acknowledged that times have moved and people are opting to use mobile money like Mpesa and Ecocash or banks for transactions but said they still accept cash only saying that probably from next year they will also shift to mobile payments or adopt other new payment systems.
Commenting on catch-a-ride, Mr. Pitso cautioned commuters from using such mode saying that it is not safe.
He said their association register commuters which he said is easier to trace commuters in case of accidents and inform their families while catch-a-ride does not register commuters.
He added that since their associations are legally registered, they are able to compensate commuters as well through their third party insurances.
