Africa-Press – Lesotho. Although learning at correctional institutions is challenging due to lack of resources, Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ex-Offenders Association (CRROA) is anticipating good results for inmates who sat for Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
This was said by CRROA Executive Director Mr. Nkalimeng Mothobi in an interview with the agency, a few hours before the release of PSLE results. Mr. Mothobi indicated that of the 15 inmates who sat for PSLE, 13 were from Juvenile Training Centre while two were from Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI), expressing hope that they have all passed.
“Learning is challenging at correctional institutions due to lack of teaching aids, textbooks and limited allocated time to study” he said, adding that no one sat for external examinations at other correctional institutions due to these challenges amongst other reasons.
However, he said nine inmates recently graduated for numeracy and literacy at Leribe and Thaba-Tseka correctional institutions. Meanwhile the Ministry of Education and Training is expected to release the PSLE results on Monday.
Established in 2010, CRROA is a non-profit organisation established by ex-prisoners with the aim to rehabilitate and support ex-inmates so that they never re-engage in criminal activities. Ends/LP/ml
