Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Business Development, through the Department of Cooperatives, held a three-day workshop for media practitioners in Molengoane starting on Monday.
Officially opening the workshop on behalf of the Commissioner of Cooperatives, Mr. Khothalang Ramoorosi said the initiative aims to strengthen relations with the media to ensure full and accurate dissemination of information about cooperatives.
He noted that the partnership is essential for raising public awareness and supporting the growth of the cooperative movement.
Meanwhile, Senior Cooperatives Officer Mrs. ’Maboitumelo Lethunya highlighted that cooperatives, when properly developed, have the potential to contribute significantly to sustainable job creation, economic growth and community development.
She added that following the media engagement, the next target group will be the Council of Chiefs, along with other key partners involved in cooperative development.
The Department of Cooperatives is mandated to mobilise, promote, train, register and develop cooperatives, as well as to regulate, supervise and monitor their operations.
