Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Information Communications Science Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Ms. Nthati Moorosi says Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is vital for digital transformation as well as economic growth.

She said this when officiating the Multi Sector Dialogue (MSD) held in Maseru on Wednesday.

According to the Minister, achieving digital economy locally requires strong partnership between the government and private sector.

Therefore, she said this dialogue is one that unites all sectors so that technology can benefit all Basotho, enhance service delivery by going through the journey of digitising National Identity Documents (ID’s) so that with confidence and convenience, citizens can access services.

“Our digital journey is aligned with the African one under principles of ensuring that ethically and responsibly data is used and shared.”

Ms. Moorosi further pin pointed that the dialogue towards exploring how best DPI can be implemented holistically for the success of digitising public services.

Meanwhile, UNICEF Representative as the main sponsor in today’s dialogue, Deepak Bhaskaran said digitising IDs is one of a catalyst for development, an exercise that ought to be done radically hence their support to the dialogue.

He explained together with MICSTI, they are working on a plan that would ensure moving towards digitisation is a movement that is achieved for Lesotho to be in alignment with other countries.
