Africa-Press – Lesotho. As rain showers continue to lash several parts of the country, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has reiterated calls for heightened caution, warning that swollen rivers and rapidly filling dams pose increased danger to communities.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday, the DMA Public Relations Assistant Officer, Ms. Mahlape Koali, said the continuous downpours have pushed many dams to capacity, causing some to overflow and increasing the likelihood of flooding in low-lying areas.
She stressed that communities residing along riverbanks and below dam walls should remain on high alert.
“The dams continue to fill up and overflow, therefore posing risks to the communities living within the banks or rivers below such dams,” she said.
