Africa-Press – Lesotho. TheCommissioner of Police (COMPOL) Holomo Molibeli has indicated that donating blood is an important initiative which saves lives and helps those at the verge of death.
COMPOL said this today at the celebration of the World Blood Donor Day which is commemorated annually on June 14. The day was earmarked to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products to save lives. This year’s theme was “Donating Blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.

The celebration attracted the public and the members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS), Lesotho Blood Transfusion Service (LBTS) and Ministry of Health (MoH) officials, who convened in a march beginning from Police Headquarters to Pitso Ground.
Donating blood does not only assist police but also those who need blood. There are a lot of people in hospitals at the moment who are waiting for blood and it is everyone’s responsibility to see to it that they get blood. I urge Basotho to donate blood in this regard, because it is an important aspect of live,” he said.
A regular blood donor Mokoto Lekholoaneng gladly shared that he has thus far donated blood 65 times and to him that has always been a privilege.
He said donating blood is an important initiative, saying every day there is someone who needs blood. “Most people want to donate only when they know who is going to get their blood but that is not important, the idea of saving someone’s’ live is all that matters. As long as people keep on donating blood, many lives

can be saved,” he noted. On behalf blood recipients, ‘Manthabiseng Tšajoa said she realized the criticality of donating when she was very ill and could not get help because there was no blood at the hospital. She applauded LMPS for running this campaign, saying there is a need for intensive education about blood donation.
