The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) have officially released the groupings for the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 Zonal Qualifiers, set to take place in Ethiopia from 15 November to 2 December 2025.
According to the official draw, South Sudan’s U-17 national team has been placed in Group A alongside Ethiopia (hosts), Somalia, Kenya, and Rwanda. Meanwhile, Group B consists of Uganda, Tanzania, Djibouti, Sudan, and Burundi.
The young Bright Stars will be looking to make a strong impression in this year’s qualifiers as they aim for a historic qualification to the 2026 U-17 AFCON finals. Preparations are already underway, with the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) technical team expected to finalize the squad and training schedule ahead of departure to Ethiopia.
SSFF officials have expressed optimism about the team’s readiness and commitment to showcasing South Sudan’s growing football talent on the regional stage. The top teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the finalists earning qualification spots for the TotalEnergies U-17 AFCON 2026.
