Africa-Press – Lesotho. Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis set the 14th world pole vault record of his career by clearing 6.30m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday.
Emmanouil Karalis of Greece cleared 6.00m to secure silver, and Australian Kurtis Marschall equaled his personal best of 5.95m to clinch bronze.
“It’s better than I could have imagined. To give you guys this world record is amazing. The crowd were so loud. Thank you so much. I’m just so happy,” said Duplantis after breaking the world record in the Japan Olympic Stadium.
The 20th World Athletics Championships in Japan’s Tokyo brought together more than 2,200 athletes from 200 countries to compete for medals across nine days of competition.
A total of 147 medals have been awarded across 49 disciplines — 24 each for men and women, plus one mixed event.
