Africa-PressLesotho. Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) launched the Point of Sale (POS) payment mode which will integrate to more local shops through its mobile money platform, EcoCash.

As revealed by ETL General Manager (GM) ‘Matikoe Letsie, this innovation serves as another platform that will offer convenience to customers. She noted that earlier this year, the

well-known Basotho owned store Enrich, became the first retail store to integrate its POS system with EcoCash, she added that the integration simply allows customers to pay for goods and food from their EcoCash wallets into the

shops’ merchant accounts. “This mode will help in reducing fraud, it will also put business owners at ease, knowing that there is no money left in the safe or

business but slips that will be cashed at Econet shops the following day,” she stated. Letsie mentioned some of the businesses that already integrated with Ecocash, such as “KFC, Stadium

Food Court, Barcelos Pioneer, Galito’s Kingsway, Café What, The Market, Sefalana Liquor and Office National”. She added that Econet partered with this businesses to

ensure a seamless and effortless shopping experience. She mentioned that no card is needed to swipe at the till and everything is done on the mobile POS

device, “also there is communication between a customer’s phone and retailer’s check-out device”. “This is just the tip of an iceberg since our intention is to partner with more shops in the same

manner. Our purpose is to offer convenience, increase security by reducing cash handling and fraud at the shops”, Letsie noted. She also pointed that using

EcoCash to pay at food outlets like KFC is not a new development, however, the experience is now different because customers do not go through the ‘pay

merchant’ menu on the mobile phone due to systems integration, rather they give cashiers their mobile numbers registered for EcoCash. KFC Representative

‘Matlhokomelo Setlaba said they are grateful for this facility, she mentioned

that already their deliveries are done through EcoCash adding that it will be easier for their clients to transit to POS. She urged customers to use POS, especially

in the era of Covid-19 where there are high possibilities of transmitting the virus through cash, “I wish all KFC’s in the country could use this device as from our branch we are already enjoying this incredible innovation,” Setlaba said.
