Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, through the Bureau of Statistics, had officially launched the Equitable Lesotho initiative in Maseru.
Speaking on this launch, the Acting Principal Secretary, Ms. Mahlape Ramoseme, said although the expected outcomes are ambitious, they are achievable. She noted that the initiative will play a key role in strengthening national planning and reducing poverty.
She explained that the programme aims to strengthen the institutional framework of the Bureau of Statistics and improve coordination across the National Statistical System. It will also enhance national capacity to effectively monitor development plans and sustain progress towards national goals.
Ms. Ramoseme further highlighted that the initiative will integrate gender-sensitive and inclusion-focused approaches into data collection, analysis and dissemination. This will ensure that “the voices of women, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups are reflected in national policies.”
The Equitable Lesotho initiative is expected to improve the quality and use of data for evidence-based decision-making and inclusive development.
