Ex-prisoners aim to fight gansterism in Lesotho

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Crime prevention Rehabilitation and Reintegration of ex-offenders (CRROA) President Mothobi Mothobi has revealed their plan to curb the wide spread of gansterism – “Manomoro” in the country. He said this yesterday at Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) premises where CRROA delivered hygiene materials inclusive of bathing and washing soaps, kitchen soaps, disinfectants and toothpastes. Mothobi said they will also fight against gang members who seem to have taken a lead in the lives of Basotho. He said they will go around in prisons, praying and holding hands together to stand against those crimes. CRROA President further too stock of unnecessary deaths of innocent people that exacerbate due to this gansterism.

He called upon the nation to support their mission and partake in this fight. He further communicated their intention to land a helping hand to their former inmates in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We intend to continue lending a helping hand to the prisoners as some of us know how it feels to be part of them. We are sincerely pleading with other organizations to contribute with funds for the success of our thoughtful plan. We have already been going around offering training sessions and teaching them about the pandemic. LCS Director Rehabilitation ‘Maseeiso Mahemu mentioned that Covid-19 has brought a blow to their finances as it has been very hard for them to buy food and other materials for the prisoners. She said it was now very hard for prisoners to survive, adding that the gift came at an opportune time.
While giving his remark, LCS Commissioner Mating Nkakala said for some time now, the commission has been depending on donations for daily survival.

“We urge and plead with everyone to continue lending a helping hand. We also intend to assist CRROA where necessary and also take part in making sure that these crimes end,” he noted. CRROA is a non-profit organization created by ex-prisoners with the mandate of distributing hygiene materials and water tanks to 12 prisons of Lesotho. It has so far distributed five tanks of 2500L capacity to five prisons of Lesotho.
