Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) in partnership with Kinetic Events South Africa (SA) will host a 500 Kilometer (Km) Expedition Africa Lesotho 2022 race to positively contribute to

the growth of the country and also to celebrate 10 years anniversary of Expedition Africa. According to LTDC Head Strategic Marketing Tebello Thoola, this event will be held at Semonkong starting from April 3 to 7

where 14 countries will participate. The race will see 38 teams competing in hiking, abseiling, horse riding, paddle boating and cycling. Thoola said Kinetic Events Africa

approached the corporation three years ago with a view to partner in this tournament which was supposed to take place in 2020. He said it has been hosted in many African

countries including SA, Eswatini, Mauritius and other parts of the world like the United Kingdom and India. He also showed that they are going to invite other

local stakeholders to make this race a success. He said the mandate of the corporation is to market and promote Lesotho as a tourism destination locally, regionally and

internationally. “Our aim is to create awareness, encourage and invite the world and as many tourists as possible. We have repeatedly been reminded that their

contribution creates jobs, alleviates poverty and ultimately contributes to the economic growth of the country,” he stated. Expedition Africa Director Heidi Muller

expressed relief over the fact that this race is finally happening as this has been a journey that started three years back. She said Expedition Africa is an

adventure tourism which put three principles together, mountain biking, hiking and tracking whereby people come from SA and around the world to observe this

incredible races. “We also partnered with Afriski, as a house resort, to give us a support because we will not have these incredible big events without full support

of local people. The other resorts will be in Semonkong, Thaba-Tseka and Mokhotlong,” she said. Among other partners that she appreciated is Alliance Insurance Company.

She said its sponsorship will go straight back to the community as it is going to sponsor a lovely and amazing donkey race activity that will be in Semonkong.

Muller stated that Expedition Africa was born in 2011, saying this is its 10th edition which has 50 international countries with 38 teams. She also indicated that participating

countries will include United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Canada, Norway, SA, Estonia, Brazil, India, Reunion Islands, Ireland, France, Portugal, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Switzerland and Denmark.
