Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Butha-Buthe Farmers Forum (BFF) provides food to 650 vulnerable children over the weekend, under the auspices of the Rural Self-help Development Association (RSDA), an association of farmers’ organizations.
Butha-Buthe District Governor Mr Tsepa Chaba said in this regard, the organizations were reaching out to needy and vulnerable children from selected primary schools within other villages in Butha-Buthe district, by they distribute papaya flour and beans that the farmers have produced for themselves.

BFF Chairperson Thabang Jooel, in an exclusive interview with the Voice of the People, explained that every district in the country has these organizations that help themselves to work with all agricultural products, and the collection of all these organizations fall under the RSDA.

Jooel pointed out that his organization did this after the outbreak of the Corona virus had a profound effect on the Basotho community, but within it there was a major impact on the disease, so they did identify the primary schools in the area to provide them with such status.

“One of the key issues was to develop agricultural knowledge within Lesotho so that we can present ourselves with our own hands.

We also remind our children that agriculture is important, the reason being that this disease has made it impossible for us to cross borders to fetch food from South Africa as is our custom, ”said Jooel.

He pointed out that the organization identified five primary schools namely Qalo Primary School, Marakabei Primary School, Liphakoeng Primary School, Maristella Primary School and Maloseng Primary School. Jooel said each child was given the following food; 12.5 Kg of porridge and 5Kg of beans.

“I point out that these beans were purchased by the RSDA from Butha-Buthe farmers’ production so that we can encourage them to be more productive, to be able to have a market because farmers are not selling anywhere,” he said. rialo.

Jooel went on to explain that the BFF does not yet have a high level of fundraising experience but is the hand of the RSDA in Butha-Buthe district and the event is directly supported by the RSDA as it is a large organization, he said. support from Danish national organizations.
