Africa-Press – Lesotho. The District Agricultural Officer, Mr. Phamotse Maboee, has called on farmers from hard to reach areas of Quthing to join forces for improvement of their access to seeds and fertilizers provided under the government’s subsidy programme.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, aims to make essential farming inputs more affordable for Basotho farmers.
In an interview with the Agency, Mr. Maboee said subsidized seeds and fertilizers are intended to boost grain production, strengthen national food security, and reduce Lesotho’s dependence on food imports and emergency food assistance.
Mr. Maboee stated that, in response to the longtime plight of farmers in remote areas requesting that subsidized farming inputs be brought closer to them, the Ministry has made preparations to address the issue from this financial year.
